EGO ME

PIETER DESMET

DANCE - SITE SPECIFIC

2017

A site-specific solo exploring the inner conflict between instinct and control, set inside an industrial elevator. The performance stages a raw battle between the Freudian id—driven by desire and aggression—and the ego, which struggles to contain it. The elevator becomes both vessel and metaphor: a confined space mirroring the body, where inner impulses clash with external restraint. As the ego falters, primal forces rise, questioning whether identity is shaped by what contains it—or what it tries to suppress. The work invites reflection on how deeply our bodies hold the tensions of who we are.
